I'm rarely found in a kopitiam-styled, air-conditioned local cuisine restaurant but I've grown rather fond of one in particular - Cantin.
They seem to be packed all the time during lunch on weekdays, reason being that their dishes are affordable and lunch sets (RM12.90 onward) are available from 12 noon up to 3pm. Their set menu is pretty extensive so there's something for everyone if you were not to select ala carte items.
Their Tomyam Meehoon with curry chicken is my favorite. I find fried meehoon of any kind hard to fry without a lot of oil and to season evenly. Cantin serves up a very tasty fried meehoon, sour and spicy alongside a large portion of lemak curry chicken made with only chicken thigh and drumsticks. There's something very comforting and satisfying about the curry chicken here and I like it even with their nasi lemak. This is my go-to order and portions are substantial even for the very greedy me.
The nasi lemak here is decent. The sambal is a on the sweeter side and is a bit tart with the flavor of asam keping. Don't mistaken it for having gone bad! The fried chicken is rather average so I usually order the Nasi Lemak with curry chicken instead.
For dinner sets, a set comprises of a main course, a drink and a dessert. Pictured above are their salted egg yolk pasta with chicken, cheese baked rice, cheese baked chicken chop which are among their dinner set options.
These dine-in photos were taken before MCO 1.0 and also during CMCO when dine-in was permitted. Takeaways and delivery for Cantin is available throughout all the Movement Control Orders and there has been no change to the quality and portion of the food even if you're not dining in so do give them a try and support a local business!
