Disclaimer: This visit to Kim Fresh Korean Seaweed was way before the MCO was implemented. Kindly contact the mall's customer service to find out if they are open for dine-in or pick-up/delivery at the moment.
A kiosk without a clear name and covered with ads, the unassuming Kim Fresh Korean Seaweed has the most customers compared to any other food establishment on the quiet lower ground floor.
This eatery was introduced by an old friend who tells the story of how (presumably) Mr Kim converted him into a kimchi fried rice and subsequently kimchi eater when he had no love for kimchi beforehand.
There are almost 20 food items for such a small kiosk and food is made fresh - the chicken is only fried when you ordered, you can hear it happening. And yet, you won't catch a whiff of oil in the area which puzzles me how the ventilation is done so well for an open space.
An enthusiastic owner greets you (if he isn't preoccupied) at the kiosk, going through all the menu items with you before you even ask, friendly and daring as he declares 'no good, no pay' at the time. Menu items consist a lot of simple rice and noodle dishes, street food and variations of fried chicken.
A lot about the kiosk is unassuming like this simple and flavorful bibimbap covered with lots of vegetables and a fried egg. You can opt for chicken or beef or have it just vegetarian. It reminded me of eating bibimbap in Seoul. It's always surprising how a medley of raw and simply cooked vegetables taste so appetizing and satisfying.
The dakganjeong was crunchy, well fried and coated well with the sweet sticky sauce. I'd like to try their yangnyeom sweet and spicy chicken next.
The few times I've been here and the owner was present - he easily calls out the dishes of his regulars and I've yet to see him get it wrong. His kimchi ramyeon seems really popular but I can't bring myself to order something so simple that I potentially can cook myself.
Nevertheless, I was very impressed by this humble looking kiosk with the enthusiastic owner and I look forward to coming back to try the rest of his menu items.
