Thai Street Food at Heng Dee by Nhom Thai ~ Damansara Uptown, PJ

New in Damansara Uptown is Heng Dee by Nhom Thai, a Thai rice and noodle place specializing in braised duck. Their offerings remind me of Thai street food, seemingly simple but actually complex in flavor.

With just a dash of fish sauce and chilli flakes, the signature kuey teow tom yam hits you with a good amount of spicy, salty and sour. Unlike the common seafood tomyam, this street food version comes with pork balls and minced pork. The kuey teow was the loveliest of textures, chewy with a nice bite.

Their braised duck is paired with noodles in a herbal ducky broth or with rice, stir fried in a tasty sauce of warm spices with a nice amount of wok hey. Both were enjoyable.

My favorite red ruby was delightful here with chewy and crunchy water chestnuts but I found it to be quite a small portion for the price. The nam keng sai was a good mixture of crunchy attap seed, natta de coco, cincau and a pleasantly fragrant syrup.

Generally the portions are a bit small for the price - all the single person dishes are priced at RM15 and above - but the flavors are great & brings me back to strolling through the streets of Bangkok.
