Korean Chinese food is fascinating as it's so similar but so different from Chinese food. Sounds weird but it's true.
When the craving hits, my Korean Chinese restaurant of choice is Buldojang at Desa Sri Hartamas and the most important dish to have here is tangsuyuk aka sweet & sour pork.
Unlike our usual pork chunks, Korean Chinese food use pork strips and Buldojang's tangsuyuk is really impressive - tender pork strips coated with a thin crunchy batter covered in a caramelized sweet and sour sauce that is so addictive, the large portion just disappears easily.
The thin crust on the pork is crunchy and chewy at the same time, it also stays crunchy for a long time. It's lightly coated in the sauce unlike the Chinese version so it's not too sweet or sour.
Jjampong is my 2nd favorite dish at Buldojang. They are generous with the seafood and I'm always impressed with the squid as it's cut thick but is cooked just right. The spicy and flavorful broth is also good till the last drop.
The jjangmyeon is tasty but the sauce is mostly onions so I can't enjoy it. The mapo tofu doesn't have the numbness of Sichuan peppercorns so the spice level is low and easy to enjoy.
The mapo tofu was enjoyable as well though even though there was no Sichuan peppercorns so it's hardly spicy with zero numb.
They're always close to full during all my visits - a testament to good Korean Chinese food.
